A ‘Sneak Peek’ at the New Scheels Store Opening in Rochester [Photo Gallery + Video]

It's been more than a year in the making and now, finally, the new Scheels store in Rochester is scheduled to open its doors on Saturday, April 11. We got to pop in early to take a look at the new store and how it's shaping up. If you're a fan of anything sports you are going to love this place!

The store, located on the south side of Apache Mall, boasts an impressive 144,000 square feet of space, with two levels of gear, equipment and apparel for every sporting pursuit imaginable, including team sports such as football, baseball, soccer, lacrosse and baseball, to hunting, fishing and water sports of all types. There are also huge apparel sections for men, women and children, and more shoes than one can imagine! The store will employ 250 associates.

In addition, there are several game areas and simulators, including one for golf, another for bowling and a third for archery. There are also several spots offering photo opportunities, with a tablet at each location where you can snap a picture and email it to yourself. One of these photo spots puts you on the ice with a hockey goaltender, another on the dock of a lake catching your choice of three types of fish and another in a big off-road jeep cruising through the mud.

The store will offer special events throughout the year, including a special activity for kids on the first Tuesday of each month. These activities will focus on various sports and activities throughout the year.
