Throughout southeast Minnesota, we have the good fortune of watching some high-quality high school football teams.

From Minnesota-Scores.net, there were 12 area teams either ranked, or who received votes in the latest Minnesota AP poll.

Teams that are ranked include Rochester Lourdes (Fourth in Class AAA), Caledonia (First in Class AA), Zumbrota-Mazeppa (Sixth in Class AA), Rushford-Peterson (Fourth in Class A), Grand Meadow (First in 9-Man) and Spring Grove (Second in 9-Man).

The halfway mark of the season has come and gone and many teams continue to fight for a quality seed in their section tournaments. There are many teams that will look to make some noise as the season progresses.

There are some area teams that will eye for a section title and a trip to the state tournament, while other teams will look to capture a state championship.

There are some teams in the area that always seem to be in the state title hunt, including Grand Meadow and Caledonia, both who are ranked number one in their class. Rochester Lourdes is another team that has dominated all of their opponents, as their average margin of victory is 24.4.

Rochester Mayo looks like the cream of the crop in Section 1 Class AAAAA, while Winona, Stewartville, Kasson-Matorville and Byron will battle it out for Section 1 Class AAAA crown.

Yet, one section in particular looks to be one of the most interesting to follow. Section 1 Class A includes Rushford-Peterson, Fillmore Central, Goodhue and Blooming Prairie have a combined record of 17-3. Rushford-Peterson has already bested Fillmore Central and Goodhue this season and will play Blooming Prairie in the final game of the regular season. There are four good teams that will look to capture the section title in Class A.

There is still a lot of football left, but there are a lot of area teams that will look to land in the State Tournament.
