(Gophersports.com) -- The University of Minnesota (7-3) women’s basketball team defeated Army West Point (7-2) 70-52 on Thursday night in Minneapolis. It was Minnesota’s second win against a 2016 NCAA Tournament team this season.

Minnesota’s defense held Army to 15 points in the first half, the lowest-scoring half by a Gophers opponent this year, including only five in the second quarter. The Maroon and Gold held off a second-half run by the Black Knights to win by 18. The Gophers shot 42.4 percent while holding Army West Point to 19.8 percent.

With the win, Marlene Stollings became the second-fastest coach in program history to reach 50 victories, doing so in 75 games. The Golden Gophers moved to 30-6 at home in the past three seasons.

Carlie Wagner scored 20 points, Gadiva Hubbard 18 and Kenisha Bell 15. Jessie Edwards had a career-high eight of the Gophers’ 11 blocks.
Wagner has scored 10 or more points in 44 consecutive games. She and Bell have reached double figures in every game they have played this season.

Minnesota will face No. 6 South Carolina on the road on Sunday, Dec. 11. The game will tip off at 2 p.m. CT
