HUDSON TOWNSHIP, Minn. (AP) — Two people are dead and a deputy is shot and wounded in west central Minnesota.

Douglas County sheriff's officials say a deputy was dispatched about 9:20 p.m. Monday on a report of a suspicious vehicle in the driveway of a residence in Hudson Township. Authorities say one of two people in the vehicle shot the responding deputy in the chest. The deputy was wearing a bullet resistant vest and was injured. The deputy returned fire and the suspects fled.

KBRF reports that after their vehicle got stuck in the snow, the suspects fled on foot.

Sheriff's deputies searched the area and found both suspects dead in the snow with a firearm nearby.

Both bodies have been sent to the Ramsey County Medical Examiner's Office for autopsies. The deputy was treated at a hospital and released.
