WATERLOO, Iowa -- After only having seven wins all of the first half, the Honkers (7-10, 14-38) matched that win total in only 17 games behind the right arm of Alex Fagalde in a 2-0 victory over the Waterloo Bucks (7-10, 29-23).

Alex Fagalde pitched the second complete game for the Honkers this season, and the first nine inning complete game, and first shutout for a starter. In the game Fagalde gave up only four hits, walked two but struck out six to lead his team to victory.

The Honkers, behind the bat of Turner Buis who went 3-4 only scored two and the first came in the third inning. With two outs in the inning and Alex Fitchett stranded on second after a lead-off double, Buis came to the plate and knocked a single to drive in Fitchett to make the score 1-0.

That would be it for the Honkers as Jonathon Buckley (1-1) went 6.1 innings giving up only one run in his first Northwoods league start, gave up five hits, walking one, and striking out three.

Derek Hendrixson came to relieve Buckley in the seventh and only gave up two hits while striking out two, over the next 1.2 innings.

The Honkers were able to add one more in the ninth however to give Fagalde more breathing room for the ninth. In the inning, Joey Czarske led things off with the a double then advanced to third on an error. Ellis would then reach first on an error. Josh Davis then popped out to second, until Jackson Thoreson then hit a single to bring the score to 2-0.

In the ninth, Fagalde walked the lead-off man, Zach Weatherford. Following Weatherford, Robert Neustrom popped out to first to be the first out. Following Neustrom, Adam McGinnis grounded into a 5-4-3 double play to end the game.

With the win, the Honkers improved to 7-10 in the second half, and Alex Fagalde improved to 2-1 and lowered his ERA to 2.01 with his nine shutout innings.

The Honkers will be playing the Bucks once again in at 7:05 back at Mayo Field for the first of four straight at home.
