One of the greatest coaches in Vikings team history, Dennis Green, passed away this morning, according to a report from ESPN's Adam Schefter. It is believed he suffered a cardiac arrest.

"they are who we thought they were" post-game rant, was one of the best coaches in the NFL from 1992-2000, while serving as the Vikings head coach.

Green went to the playoffs with the Vikings eight of ten seasons, with the only missed appearances coming in his final season with the team in 2001, and in 1995. Over that period the Vikings had the second most trips to the playoffs behind only the 49ers and Cowboys. In addition, Green led his team to the playoffs all those years with seven different quarterbacks. From 1998-2000 Green led the Vikings to their best three-year stretch in team history, which helped him to attain the highest winning winning percentage for a Vikings head coach in their 40 years as a franchise. The team went 97-62 over that ten-year span.

His greatest season came in 1998 when he led, at that time, the highest scoring offense in NFL history, to a record of 15-1 only to lose in overtime in the NFC Championship game. The team was led offensively by Randall Cunningham at quarterback, along with arguably the greatest receiving duo in NFL history - Cris Carter and Randy Moss.

After being fired by the Vikings in 2001, Green coached the Arizona Cardinals from 2004-2006, but he was unable to find the same success in the desert that he achieved in the "Land of 10,000 Lakes."
