Minneapolis, MN (KROC-AM News) - Minnesota Gopher running back Rodney Smith has been named the Big 10 conference offensive player of the week.

The sophomore from Georgia recorded 257 all-purpose yards against Rutgers on Saturday. That is the most by a Gopher since Troy Stoudermire had 290 yards against Iowa in 2008.

Smith rushed for 111 yards, including a touchdown. He caught one pass for 27 yards and had 119 kick return yards. Most of that came during a 94 yard kickoff return touchdown in the third quarter.

This is the first time Smith has won the Offense of Player of the Week award and the last time it has been claimed by a Gopher was in September 2014 when the honor went to David Cobb.
