(Gophersports.com) - Right-hander Neal Kunik has been named Big Ten Co-Pitcher of the Week.

In just his second collegiate start, Kunik struck out a career-high nine batters in seven scoreless innings. He scattered three hits in the Gophers’ win against Penn State in the series finale.

Kunik now has a 1.27 ERA in eight appearances for the Gophers. He has pitched 28 1/3 innings.

The Gophers’ last Big Ten Pitcher of the Week was DJ Snelten on May 20, 2013. Snelten and Tom Windle each earned the honor twice last season.

Former Red Wing High School standout Ryan Boldt was named the conference freshman of the week.  Boldt, who is a first year player at Nebraska, is slated to play for the Rochester Honkers this summer.   He scored four runs and two multi-hit games against Michigan last week.
