MINNEAPOLIS (GopherSports.com) –Gopher Hockey senior forward Travis Boyd has been named the Big Ten Third Star of the Week after tallying four points last weekend against Wisconsin, the league announced on Tuesday morning.

A native of Hopkins, Minn., Boyd matched his career high with three points (two goals, one assists) in Minnesota’s 5-2 win over the Badgers on Saturday including the game-winning goal. The Washington Capitals prospect leads the Big Ten with four game-winning goals this season and has already matched his career high for goals in a season with nine through 20 games this year. Boyd also picked up an assist in Friday’s 2-2 overtime tie with Wisconsin.

Boyd has been an offensive force for Gopher Hockey since returning from a lower-body injury that kept him out of the lineup for an entire month. The senior has 11 points (six goals, five assists) in eight games since returning from the injury and has tallied a point in seven games over that span including a five-game point streak heading into this weekend – one game off his career-best.

This week’s honor marks the second of the year for Boyd, who has 16 points (nine goals, seven assists) this season, and the fourth of his career. He was previously named the Big Ten First Star of the Week on Oct. 28.

Michigan’s Dylan Larkin was named the Big Ten First Star of the Week while Penn State’s David Goodwin picked up Big Ten Second Star of the Week honors.

Minnesota returns to action next weekend with the second annual North Star College Cup presented by Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Minnesota. The Gophers open the four-team tournament against Minnesota State on Friday and will play either Minnesota Duluth or Bemidji State on Saturday.
