The Rochester Honkers defeated the Thunder Bay Border Cats 3-2 Sunday afternoon in Rochester. Tyler Feyereisen (St. Thomas) earned the win for Rochester and moved to 2-1 on the season. Ricky Delgado (San Joaquin Delta College) pitched the final three innings and picked up his second save of the season. Greg Weissert (Fordham) was charged with the loss for Thunder Bay.

It was Rochester’s first win against Thunder Bay at home this season. The Border Cats had swept the first series in Rochester in June. The win moves the Honkers to 4-0 in the second half and keeps them in contention for first place in the North Division. Willmar and St. Cloud also came into the day at 4-0 in July.

It was a classic pitchers’ duel through the first six innings of the ballgame before Thunder Bay broke through with a pair of runs off Feyereisen in the top of the seventh, but the Honkers wasted no time in responding.

With two outs, Matt Fiedler (Minnesota) lined a double up the third base line that brought in Jayson Yano (Stevens Institute), Bram Grooten (Wentworth Institute) and Ryan Summers (Louisville) to give Rochester a 3-0 lead.

The Honkers and Border Cats will face off once more tomorrow, July 6th, at 7:05 p.m.
