Honkers Losing Streak Reaches 8 in 3-2 loss to Battle Creek

BATTLE CREEK, Mich. -- On a day when the Honkers (5-18) were able to get a quality start out of Jackson Douglas (ND, 0-1) the offense went silent, as the Honkers dropped their eighth straight, losing 3-2 to Battle Creek (14-12).

Douglas went six innings allowing only two runs on five hits while striking out eight without a walk, but the pen was unable to hold the lead giving up the go ahead run in the eighth.

Douglas gave up both of his runs in the bottom of the fourth when Daniel Jipping drove in Daniel Patzlaff with an RBI triple then scored on an error by Honkers shortstop Jacob Thomas.

The Honkers were able to chip away at the lead scoring one in the fifth on Drew Ellis' groundout to second that allowed Chase Lambert to score.

In the top of the sixth the Honkers tied the game as Brett Harrison, who went 2-4 on the day, scored on an RBI single from Thomas to make the game 2-2.

The Honkers were stifled every other inning, as Bombers starter Jordan Horak went 5.2 innings allowing only two runs and they got 3.2 scoreless inning from the pen with reliever Edgar Sanchez (W, 2-1) getting the win, and Brandon Guske notching the save, his fifth on the year.

Ricky Delgado (L, 0-1) relieved Douglas in for the seventh and didn't allow a run but in the eighth he allowed his first run of the season, when Daniel Jipping drove in Ryan Dorow on a sacrifice fly to left.

Both Chase Lambert and Turner Buis went 2-4 and Joey Czarske continued his hot hitting going 1-3.

The Honkers are in a new city tomorrow as they face the Kalamazoo Growlers (14-11) at 6:05 at Homer Stryker Field.
