(Rochester, Minn) —The Rochester Honkers shut out the Mankato MoonDogs on Friday night, 5-0. Matt Fiedler (Minnesota) picked up the win for the Honkers, while Connor O’Neil (Cal State Northridge) was charged with the loss for Mankato.

The win keeps the Honkers a perfect 3-0 in the second half of the NWL season. Rochester is 5-2 against Mankato on the season.

The Honkers took an early lead in front of over 2000 fans, as Joe DeRoche-Duffin (UCONN) and Mark Contreras (UC Riverside) hit solo homeruns on back-to-back pitches from O’neil for a 2-0 advantage.

Dempsey Grover (UC Santa Barbara) scored on a sacrifice fly from Adam Walton (Illinois) and William Paschal (Georgia Gwinnett) came in on a wild pitch in the second inning for a 4-0 Rochester lead.

An insurance run by Slade Heggen (Oregon) off the bat of Paschal in the eighth solidified the Honkers win as Fiedler allowed just two hits in his six innings of work, and Ricky Delgado (San Joaqiun Delta College), Greg Jakusik (Stevens Institute) and Spencer Greer (Dixie State) combined for a perfect final three innings.
