Hunter, Gordon Elected into Twins Hall of Fame

The Minnesota Twins added a couple new members to their Hall of Fame on Friday. The recently retired outfielder Torii Hunter and longtime broadcaster John Gordon were elected just before the start of TwinsFest.

Last year no one was elected. When a player retires, the Twins have imposed a two-year waiting period for eligibility into their team’s Hall of Fame. The Twins waived that clause for Hunter and he was voted in by a large margin in his first year of eligibility. Hunter started and ended his career with the Twins, playing for the team in 12 of his 19 years as a Major League player.

Gordon was the team’s main play-by-play voice for 25 years beginning in 1987, the year the team won its first World Series. He and Herb Carneal are the only two broadcasters elected into the Twins Hall of Fame.

Hunter will be honored during a pregame ceremony on Saturday July 16^th.  Gordon will be honored the next day, Sunday July 17^th.
