Minnesota sports fans haven't much to cheer about lately, but that changed Monday morning when Karl-Anthony Towns, the number one overall pick from Kentucky, was unanimously voted the NBA's Rookie of the Year.

Towns is the second consecutive Timberwolves player to win the Rookie of the Year award after teammate Andrew Wiggins had a similarly convincing debut last year.

The Timberwolves center averaged 18.1 points, 10.7 rebounds and 1.7 blocks and even helped the Wolves win 13 more games than they did the previous season.

With two rising stars in Towns and Wiggins, the Wolves also employ a promising young core including Zach LaVine and Ricky Rubio, that will be coached next season by Tom Thibodeau... could the Wolves finally end a 12-season playoff drought?

Time will certainly tell.  But what is clear, is that Flip Saunders' vision for the franchise he helped raise many years ago, and again took over last year before his untimely death, is finally becoming respectable again in the league.  For that, Wolves fans have something to cheer about for the first time in a long time.
