MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Major League Baseball and the Minnesota Twins are apologizing for post-midnight fireworks shot off after the All-Star Gala in downtown Minneapolis.

In a statement, MLB says the show was "louder and longer than what we were expecting."

The invitation-only event was scheduled to start after the Home Run Derby at Target Field. MLB says organizers had agreed to conduct a "light" fireworks display at midnight. But, the fireworks didn't go off until nearly 12:30 a.m. Tuesday.

The Star Tribune says some residents who complained on Twitter used the hashtag "bragmnpls" set up by Mayor Betsy Hodges to encourage citizens to brag about the city.

"I bet your city isn't setting off fireworks in the middle of the night," one person tweeted. "Not sleeping. Not bragging" another post said.
