Mayo High School graduate Brad Mathiowetz has been named the winner of the 2014 Mr. Baseball Award.

Mathiowetz, who was among the seven finalists for the honor, was presented the award at a banquet in the Twin Cities on Sunday. He just wrapped up his high school career with a standout season for Mayo by batting .570 and hitting 18 home runs, a mark that is just one shy of the state record. His performance helped propel Mayo to the Section One championship game and a chance for a second straight state tournament appearance, but the Spartans ended up losing to Lakeville South.

Mathiowetz was the Minnesota Twins' pick in the 35th round of the draft, but he has yet to receive a contract offer from the team.
