The shooting happened about 8:30 a.m. near the town of Perley, which is about 25 miles northeast of Moorhead. Authorities say a person in the vehicle was taken into custody on a warrant and at some point, another occupant fired at the deputy, who returned fire. The Minnesota Public Safety Department says the deputy was wearing a protective vest and was not seriously hurt. It’s not known if the suspect was hit. The suspect was caught about two hours later not far from the scene of the shooting.
