MINNEAPOLIS (Gophersports.com) - University of Minnesota men's gymnastics junior, Zach Liebler, was named the Big Ten Gymnast of the Week.

The Pine Island native finished first on the Floor Exercise with a career high 15.850 - a score that ties for third in the nation.

Liebler also placed second on Vault with a 15.000.

This is the junior's first Big Ten Gymnast of the Week honor.

The Maroon and Gold defeated the Penn State Nittany Lions, 432.750-418.500, with Gophers earning top scores on Floor (Liebler, 15.850), Pommel Horse (Justin Karstadt, 14.900), Vault (Yaroslav Pochinka, 15.350), Parallel Bars (Paul Montague, 14.950) and High Bar (Jalon Stephens, 14.600) and in the All-Around (Tristan Duran, 85.400).

As a team, Minnesota claimed Floor (74.850), Pommel Horse (70.700), Vault (74.250), Parallel Bars (72.100) and the High Bar (69.050).

The Gophers last earned a Big Ten Gymnast of the Week honor on Feb. 23, 2015 with Ellis Mannon collecting the honor.
