Today the music world mourns the loss of a true icon. Prince passed away at the age of 57. He wasn't only a music legend, he was the consummate performer. That was perhaps no more evident than during his halftime performance at Super Bowl XLI.

Rain, thunder, lightning, four separate electric guitars, dancers in eight-inch heels and a slick stage sound like a recipe for disaster. Let's be real. Many superstars would have packed it in, decided it was too dangerous or too potentially embarrassing if a mishap should take place.

But not Prince. He turned the halftime show into what many would say was one of the crowning glories of the latter stages of his career. His set was electrifying and it had nothing to do with the weather. As he sang 'Purple Rain' with the heavens dumping buckets of water onto the stadium in Miami, he truly owned the Super Bowl!
