(Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - Rochester is among a handful of cities in the running to become the host for a new Minnesota Timberwolves development league team.

At the request of the NBA team, the Rochester Amateur Sports Commission submitted a proposal to the Timberwolves this week. Amateur Sports Commission Executive Director Ed Hruska says details about the plan have not been released, but it would have the D-league team play its home games at the existing Mayo Civic Center Arena.

Rochester’s largest employer, the Mayo Clinic, has already forged a close relationship with the Timberwolves with the development of the team’s new practice facility and Mayo sports medicine clinic in downtown Minneapolis. Mayo is also a major sponsor of the Minnesota Lynx, who feature the Mayo logo on their team jerseys.

The other communities bidding to host the team and the timeline for a decision by the Timberwolves have not been disclosed.
