Congratulations go out to Rochester's own Marcus Sherels, who has been named the NFC Special Teams Player of the Week, thanks to his performance in the Vikings' victory over the Bears on Sunday.

According to a story on the Vikings website, "Sherels returned a punt 65 yards for a touchdown in the first quarter to give the Vikings a 7-3 lead against the Bears at Soldier Field. He also returned a punt 12 yards to kick-start the Vikings game-winning drive. Sherels averaged 25.7 yards on three returns and led the Vikings with two special teams tackles."

Not a bad week at the office, as they say. Sherels' impressive performance Sunday puts him in some pretty good company, too, as the story also notes that he's the first punter returner in Vikings history to have been named as the NFC Specials Teams Player of the Week.

But that's not all. The story also said, "The touchdown placed the Minnesota native atop the record books in punt returns for touchdowns with three in his five-year career. Sherels had a 77-yard return against Detroit on Sept. 30, 2012 and an 86-yard punt return for a TD against the New York Giants on Oct. 21, 2013. He has a franchise-record five punt returns of 50 or more yards."

Nice job, Marcus!  Your hometown (and the whole state, for that matter) is proud of you!
