Strong Storms Down Trees and Produce Street Flooding
Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) – Significant street flooding and downed trees were reported in the Rochester area after a line of very strong storms hit the region Wednesday afternoon.
The storms produced wind gusts of up to 65 mph in Dodge County, where the National Weather Service received reports of some damage to buildings in Claremont. A 60 mph gust was reported northeast of Rochester, while there were a few other reports of 50 mph or higher winds in southeastern Minnesota as the region was pounded by heavy rain during the busy evening commute.
The National Weather Service issued severe thunderstorm warnings for nearly every county in the region as the storm system moved through, and tornado warnings were posted in northern Dodge and northwest Olmsted counties, along with an area of Fillmore County based on radar images, but early reports suggest there were no actual tornado touchdowns.
