Timberwolves Select Kris Dunn #5 Overall

In a draft filled with drama, including the Timberwolves efforts to get Jimmy Butler, at the end of the night the Timberwolves made one move and it was a good and smart one, drafting Providence point guard Kris Dunn.

According to Comcast Sportsnet Chicago Bulls insider Vincent Goodwill the Wolves offered the Bulls Dunn, Zach LaVine, and a future 2nd round pick for Butler, however Bulls GM Gar Foreman denies that report.

What Dunn provides offensively is someone who isn't a score first player, but can score unlike Rubio, and someone who can distribute the ball. Dunn also had a very tough upbringing and one would hope, that will continue to drive him to be the best he can be.

With Tom Thibadeau as the head coach, Wolves fans should be assured that under his direction Dunn will definitely reach his defensive potential, as should Towns and Wiggins, but he also should reach his ultimate potential. Thibs is able to bring the best out of young talented players as evidenced by his work with Derrick Rose, Joakim Noah, and the aforementioned Butler.

This now gives the Wolves a young core of Karl-Anthony Towns, Andrew Wiggins, Zach LaVine and now Kris Dunn, with the potential to make a move for a young center by dealing Ricky Rubio (Suns or Kings?). Plus the Wolves still have $20 plus million in cap space to pursue a free agent or two.

Bottom line, the Wolves didn't make much noise last night during the draft but by grabbing Kris Dunn it gives the Wolves another player they can build around. The future continues to brighten.
