Three Rochester organizations have benefited from the sanctions imposed on Penn State for the Jerry Sandusky scandal.

Penn State was forced to forfeit its share of revenue from Big Ten football bowl games through the 2015/2016 season. The money instead is being shared by the colleges in the conference and they turn it over to charitable organizations that work with children. Last year, the University of Minnesota gave its share to the Twin Cities United Way.

This year, U of M President Eric Kaler split the money with the school’s five campuses. The per-campus share was nearly $46,000. UMR decided to give $25,870 to the Rochester Area Family Y, $10,000 to the Boys and Girls Club and $10,000 to the Olmsted County United Way.
