It was a good night in Minnesota professional sports last night, as both the Minnesota Wild and the Minnesota Timberwolves grabbed wins.

There was no hangover for the Wild, after giving up five third period goals in a 5-4 loss to the New York Rangers the night before. It took a shootout, but they came out with a 4-3 victory over the San Jose Sharks, thanks to shootout goals from Mikko Koivu and Jason Pominville.

The Wild improved to 6-3-0 on the season. They have tonight off and then will face the Dallas Stars at the Xcel Energy Center on Saturday night. The puck drops at 7:00 pm.

The Wolves played their first regular season home game of the post-Kevin Love era and showed that they can get it done without him, beating the Detroit Pistons 97-91. The Wolves were led offensively by Nikola Pekovic, who scored 17 points and grabbed 10 rebounds, and by Ricky Rubio, who added 11 points as well as eight assists and seven rebounds.

The Wolves improved their record to 1-1 and will be back in action at Target Center tomorrow night and will be looking to remain undefeated at home as the Chicago Bulls come into town. Tipoff is at 7:00 pm.
