Woodbury, MN (KROC AM News) -  Law enforcement officials in the Twin Cities had their hands full during 2021 dealing with a non-stop barrage of carjackings and motor vehicle thefts.

It appears the trend has carried over into the new year.

Among the most recent cases is an incident on Sunday involving thieves who are 13-years-old.

The Woodbury Police Dept. is reporting two of its officers who had just completed the successful apprehension of suspects in a stolen vehicle case spotted two cars driving at a high rate of speed on I-94. The officers began chasing one of the cars but broke off the pursuit due to the driver’s dangerous behavior. A short while later, the car “suffered a catastrophic failure” and the thieves fled on foot but two of them were apprehended.

The Woodbury PD says both are 13-years-old and one of them “has previous arrests for possession of stolen vehicles."

Also found in the car they had stolen was a key fob from a car that had been stolen the day before in Woodbury. In that case, a resident had been unloading groceries when a teenager jumped into the car and drove off. The owner grabbed onto the door and was dragged a short distance before letting go. The victim was not seriously hurt.
