MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Two people with knowledge of the situation tell The Associated Press that the Minnesota Timberwolves have received permission to interview Memphis Grizzlies coach Dave Joerger for their head coaching opening.

The Wolves received permission on Wednesday, one day after getting the 13th pick in the NBA draft lottery. The people requested anonymity because the Timberwolves are not commenting publicly on coaching candidates.

Joerger went 50-32 in his first season as coach of the Grizzlies. After a rough start, Joerger guided an injury plagued team to the seventh seed in the Western Conference. The Grizzlies lost to Oklahoma City in the first round.

Joerger is a native of Staples, Minnesota, and went to college at Division II Minnesota State, Moorhead.
