DULUTH, Minn. (GopherSports.com) - The No. 13/15 Gopher Hockey program couldn't find a way to beat Kasimi Kaskiuo and No. 7 Minnesota Duluth on Saturday night at AMSOIL Arena as the Bulldogs picked up a 3-0 win to sweep the Gophers.

For the second night in a row Minnesota Duluth jumped out to a two-goal lead with goals from Dominic Toninato and Karson Kuhlman at 5:25 and 12:01 of the first period, respectively. Both goals came at even strength in a period that saw a total of eight penalties and five power-play opportunities.

The Bulldogs (2-1-0 overall, 0-0-0-0 NCHC) added another fast goal to open the second period when Jared Thomas came out of the penalty box and ended up with a breakaway goal at the 1:10 mark.

The Gophers (0-3-0, 0-0-0-0 Big Ten) had scoring chances on Saturday night including several on the power play but never could beat Kaskiuo. Minnesota went 0-for-7 on the power play and 3-for-3 on the penalty kill while being outshot 33-21.

Kaskisuo made 21 saves in the win while Eric Schierhorn took the loss for Minnesota with a 30-save performance.

The Gophers return to action next weekend when Northeastern comes to Mariucci Arena for a nonconference series, Oct. 23-24.
