Authorities Seize Over 50 Pound Trout Caught by MN Man

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — A Minnesota fisherman's possible world-record lake trout may be disqualified because it was caught in Canada.

Sixty-five-year-old Rob Scott of Crane Lake pulled the 52-pound, 3-ounce fish through the ice on the Ontario side of Lac la Croix Feb. 8.

That same day, Scott previously caught a smaller, 4-pound trout. That fish was on the ice when two Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources officers stopped to check Scott's license — before he caught the larger fish.

The Star Tribune reports after catching the bigger fish, Scott gave the smaller fish to a fellow angler, giving him his legal limit of one to return to Minnesota.

Scott says he was fishing only about 100 feet from the Minnesota side of Lac la Croix, where the lake trout limit is two.
