Chris Paul Blasts NBA Female Ref Lauren Holtkamp [VIDEO]
Lauren Holtkamap is the third female referee to work on a full-time basis in the NBA. The rookie official also has a quick trigger whistle when it comes to technical fouls. Last night, she was part of an NBA officiating crew that called five technical fouls and one flagrant foul on the Los Angeles Clippers. LA lost the game to the Cleveland Cavaliers by a final score of 105-94 and afterwards, Clippers guard Chris Paul sounded off on Holtkamp.
"I think we have to show better composure, but at the same time some of [the technical fouls] were ridiculous," Paul told ESPN after the game.
"The tech that I get right there was ridiculous. I don't care what nobody says, I don't care what she says; that's terrible. There's no way that can be a tech. We try to get the ball out fast every time down the court, and when we did that, she said, 'Uh-uh.' I said, 'Why, uh-uh?' And she gave me a tech. That's ridiculous. If that's the case, this might not be for her."
In her bio, the 34-year-old Holtkamp spent six seasons officiating games in the NBA D-League and four seasons in the WNBA. In addition, she has worked in numerous college conferences, including the Atlantic Coast Conference, Big Ten, Big 12, American, Big East, and the Colonial Athletic Conference.
Paul is also President of the NBA Player's Association, has received a lot of attention for his comments, since they were directed at a female referee. The NBA Referee's Union quickly came to the defense of Holkamp, saying that after reviewing the incident, her calls were justified and she belongs as an NBA official.
