St. Paul, MN (KROC-AM News) - Despite a sizable increase in the number of completed tests on Friday, the number of new COVID-19 cases reported today by the Minnesota Department of Health dropped by over 200 from yesterday.

State health officials reported 464 new cases were detected by the approximately 16,500 tests. Only 9 new cases were reported in Olmsted County and the health department reported only 5 new COVID-19 deaths statewide. The test total on Friday was almost 2000 higher than the Thursday count when nearly 670 new cases were detected.

The state did report a modest increase in COVID-19 hospitalizations. 265 people are currently hospitalized due to COVID-19 and 117 are in intensive care units. Those numbers are comparable to the totals about a week and a half ago.
