IS (AP) — Fire officials say three people have died and five others have been injured in a duplex fire in Minneapolis.

Minneapolis Fire Chief John Fruetel says three people died at the scene of the fire in north Minneapolis and the injured were taken to North Memorial and Hennepin County Medical Center.  Media reports indicate the three who died were children.

The chief says firefighters encountered heavy smoke and fire on the second and third floor of the duplex Friday morning. Crews responded to the fire about 5 a.m. and three alarms were called. Officials say the fire displaced 15 people.
