Prosecutors said in January 2021 Brooklyn Center Police Officers responded to a report of shots fired. Officers spoke to a woman who said 41-year-old Edell Jackson shot at her during an argument and he was still armed.

The woman assisted officers in locating Jackson, who was found sitting in a parking lot in the driver’s seat of a vehicle.

When law enforcement approached the vehicle and attempted to arrest Jackson, he tried to drive away but was blocked by squad cars. Jackson then exited his vehicle and fled on foot. As he ran, he took off his jacket and left it in a snowbank.

After a foot pursuit, officers arrested Jackson. After searching his jacket, authorities found a pistol inside a zipped pocket.

Jackson has multiple prior felony convictions in Minnesota and Illinois and is prohibited under federal law from possessing firearms or ammunition at any time.

Friday, he was convicted of one count of possessing a firearm.  He will be sentenced at a later date.
