there's nothing like packing up the car and hitting the road and if you planning on doing just that you might want to add the famous Route 66 to your trip. The famous highway was just named by TripSavvy one of the eight best road trips to take in the midwest. It's one of those iconic roads in America I think no matter where you are going you should take it at least once.

The road starts in Chicago and runs 300 miles to St. Louis. There is even a sign at the Art Institute of Chicago where many people take a picture with the "Begin Route 66" here sign.

There are a few stops you can make on the way down to St. Louis like the Route 66 Museum in Pontiac, side road statues like the Muffler Man, and plenty of selfies stops along the way.

If you decide to take the famous road from start to finish you will cover eight states in total and 2,400 miles of road. Fun fact: the route was built to make a more efficient way to get from Chicago to Los Angels back in the 1920s and the famous route also has been an inspiration for TV, music, and books. St. Louis' own Chuck Berry has the famous Route 66 song.
