A Rochester man was ticketed for disorderly conduct Sunday afternoon in connection with a disturbance over a facemask requirement at a local business.

A Rochester Police Department spokesman says officers were dispatched to the Cub Foods store in southeast Rochester after the manager of the business called about a man who smashed a number of large bottles of hand sanitizer. The manager told the officers the man became upset after he came to the customer service desk and was told he would have to wear a face mask.

Police located the man a couple of blocks away at the intersection of 8 1/2 Street and 11th Avenue Southeast. The spokesman says 29-year-old Leonard Booth of Rochester was cited for both disorderly conduct and fourth-degree criminal damage to property. The Cub Foods store manager estimated the damage to the hand sanitizer product and the resulting splatters from being smashed on the floor caused around $250 in damage.

(correction-earlier version had damages listed at up to $800)
