Major Snowstorms, Sleet, Ice, and Rain Predicted for Illinois
The legendary Farmer's Almanac winter weather predictions were just released and for Illinois and the Midwest, it's a cold and stormy winter season.
Farmers' Almanac
The history of the Farmers' Almanac and its weather forecasting dates back to the early 19th century. The Farmers' Almanac is a reference book with long-range weather forecasts, astronomical data, gardening advice, and other helpful information. It's published annually and has become a cultural icon in the United States.
One of the biggest features of the almanac is its weather forecasting. The technique used for forecasting is a closely guarded secret by its editors. The predictions are made based on a formula that takes into account a range of factors, including sunspots, lunar cycles, and other astronomical and meteorological data.
Over the years, the Farmers' Almanac has gained a reputation for its accuracy in weather predictions, particularly for long-range forecasts.
Farmers' Almanac Winter 2024 Forecast
The 207th edition of the Farmers' Almanac was just released and the forecast calls for more snow and frigid cold for the United States. Farmers' Almanac editor Pete Gieger says,
After a weird and warm winter season last year, this winter should make cold weather fans rejoice – especially those in the Great Lakes, Midwest, and northern New England areas.
More specifically for Illinois, Wisconsin, and the rest of the Midwest, the Farmers' Almanac says January and February should bring lower-than-average temperatures and lots of
"snowstorms, sleet, ice (and) rain."
As I share this 2024 winter forecast on the 21st day of August, with an expected high of 88 degrees today and near 100 tomorrow, I'm reminded not to complain about it being so hot. Soon it will be frigid cold.
