MINNEAPOLIS (GopherSports.com) – Gopher Hockey sophomore Leon Bristedt has been named the Big Ten Second Star of the Week after helping the Gophers capture a third-straight Big Ten regular-season conference championship over the weekend at Mariucci Arena.

A native of Stockholm, Sweden, Bristedt posted four points (three goals, one assist) including a three-point performance that matched his career high on Saturday as the Gophers beat Wisconsin 4-1 to clinch the conference crown. Down by one to the Badgers, the sophomore scored his first career shothanded goal to spark a four-goal rally for the Maroon & Gold. The forward later assisted on a power-play tally and then added an empty-net goal for his second career multi-goal game.

Bristedt has nearly doubled his offensive output from his freshman season with career highs for points (35), goals (19, up from five last year) and assists (16).

This week’s honor from the Big Ten marks Bristedt’s third career accolade, all of which have come in the 2015-16 campaign.

The defending Big Ten Tournament champion Gophers will open the Big Ten Tournament at Xcel Energy Center on Friday in semifinal action at 7:30 p.m. CT, playing the winner of Thursday’s Ohio State/Michigan State game. Single-session tickets can be purchased at the Xcel Energy Center Box Office, Ticketmaster Ticket Centers, by calling 800-745-3000 or online at ticketmaster.com.
