Gophers Fire Women’s Basketball Coach

University of Minnesota Director of Athletics Norwood Teague announced today that head women's basketball coach Pam Borton has been relieved of her coaching duties, effective immediately.

"Pam has had many successful seasons at the University of Minnesota, but we feel it is time to look at another leader to position this program for long-term success," Teague said. "We are grateful to Pam and her staff for their hard work and dedication to this University, our students and the entire Minnesota community. We wish Pam well."

Borton compiled a record of 236 - 152 (.608) in her 12 seasons as Gopher head coach and led the program to six NCAA tournament appearances, including a 2004 Final Four appearance and three WNIT berths.

"I am grateful for my 12 seasons at the University of Minnesota. This is a great state and University, and I have enjoyed becoming a part of this community," Borton said. "I want to thank my players and staff over the years. We've accomplished a lot together and they have made the experience truly special. I want to give a special thanks to our current players and staff. They are a great group and I have enjoyed coaching and working with them every day."

Assistant coach Kelly Roysland was named interim head women's basketball coach. A national search for the 11th head women's basketball coach in the history of the Golden Gopher program will begin immediately.
