MINNEAPOLIS (GopherSports.com) – Gopher Hockey senior captain Kyle Rau has been named the Big Ten Second Star of the Week after posting three points over the weekend at the 24th annual Mariucci Classic.

The league announced the honor, Rau’s second career Big Ten weekly accolade and first of the season, on Tuesday morning.

The All-American from Eden Prairie tallied an assist in Friday’s 3-2 setback to nationally ranked Merrimack before notching his sixth multi-point game of the season on Saturday in a 3-2 overtime win against RIT. Rau, who is tied for the team lead with 20 points this season, picked up an assist in regulation before tallying the overtime winner for the Gophers. Twenty of the senior’s 54 career goals for Minnesota have been game winners while Rau is the NCAA active leading scorer for game-winning goals.

Minnesota is now 75-11-7 all-time when Rau tallies a point and 37-3-0 when the forward tallies more than one point in a game.

Ohio State’s Matt Johnson was named the Big Ten First Star of the Week while Wisconsin’s Joel Rumpel picked up Big Ten Third Star of the Week honors.

Minnesota returns to Big Ten Conference action this weekend with a pair of league games at Michigan.
