ANN ARBOR, Mich. (GopherSports.com) – Three juniors scored and Eric Schierhorn made 33 saves in a 3-2 win at No. 9 Michigan as the Gopher Hockey program goes into the break in sole possession of first place in the Big Ten Conference.

Vinni Lettieri and Jake Bischoff each picked up a goal and an assist while Hudson Fasching also tallied for Minnesota.

Schierhorn made 33 saves to pick up the win and move to 7-8-0 on the year.

After killing off a pair of penalties to start the game, the Gophers took advantage on their first power-play opportunity. Bischoff scored his third goal of the season – all coming on the power play – with a shot from the point after being set up by Vinni Lettieri and Taylor Cammarata at 15:32.

Minnesota (7-8-0 overall, 3-1-0-0 Big Ten) went into the first intermission with a two-goal lead though as Fasching deflected another blast from the point by Bischoff at 18:23. The even-strength goal – Fasching’s eighth of the year – was also assisted by Tommy Novak.

Kyle Connor single-handedly put the Wolverines back in the game with a goal at 11:53 of the second and another at 1:34 of the third.

But Lettieri answered back 12 seconds later at 1:46 when he slipped an unassisted wrister into the net for his second of the year. The goal proved to be the deciding tally as Minnesota picked up a split on the weekend against the nationally ranked Wolverines.

The Gophers return to action at the 25th annual Mariucci Classic, Jan. 1-2, at Mariucci Arena. Joining Minnesota will be UConn, Ferris State and Harvard.
