The unplanned day off on Friday did the Honkers (1-3) some good last night as they pulled out their first win of the year 9-6 over the La Crosse Loggers .

The Honkers raced out to an early lead as Bryce Marquardt out of the lead-off spot scored in the first inning on a wild pitch. Christopher Scalisi then scored on Miles Lewis' RBI single to make it 2-0.

The Honkers added one more when Miles Lewis scored when Lodgers catcher Ramon Padilla attempted to throw out Alex Fitchett at second base.

The Loggers made an early comeback by scoring one in the bottom of the first and two in the bottom of the second making it 3-3.

In the top of the 4th, the Honkers regained the lead on catcher Brett Harrison's 2-run double, driving in Alex Fitchett and Joey Czarske, making it 5-3. The Honkers got one more, on Houston Glad's RBI single to make it 6-3. The Loggers fought back in the bottom half of the inning scoring two on a Luke Farley two-run single to make it 6-5.

Honkers starter David Worrell from Corpus Christi college, went four innings giving up five runs, four earned in four innings as he was hurt by 5 walks while giving up only three hits.

After Jesse Ellefson gave up a run in the seventh out of the pen, the Honkers added two more in the eighth to make bring it to it's final score of 9-6. Ellefson got the win, his first of the year, and Houston Glad got the save. Jared Liebelt was handed the loss.

  • The Honkers got great work from the bullpen last night as Jesse Ellefson and Glad went a combined 5 innings giving up only one run, in the seventh, while striking out four.
