THUNDER BAY, Ontario -- The Honkers had an early lead that they once again blew by giving up nine unanswered runs in a 10-4 loss in Thunder Bay.

Erik Cha was able to have a solid start, throwing five innings giving up four runs, however only two earned, however he walked four and struck out two.

Cha left the game after the fifth in a tie game after having a 4-1 lead going into the bottom half of the inning.

The Honkers scored the first of their four runs thanks to the first batter of the game, Turner Buis. Buis hit his first home run of the year, only his fifth extra base hit, to give the Honkers a 1-0 lead.

In the bottom half of the inning, the Border Cats, responded with an RBI single by Mitch Bingras to make the score 1-1.

In top of the fourth the Honkers scored two more thanks to a home run off the bat of the struggling Alex Fitchett, who hit a two-run shot to make the score 3-1. The following inning the Honkers scored their final run of the game when Jackson Thoreson drew a walk to drive in Josh Hauser to make it 4-1.

In the bottom half of the fifth the Honkers lead quickly evaporated. The first run of the inning scored on Bigras' sac fly that made it 4-2. Following that play, Cha forced a ground ball that would've gotten him out of the inning, but an error by shortstop Josh Hauser, allowed Shane Shepard to score and the inning to continue. Anthony Brocato then scored on a throwing error by catcher Jackson Thoreson to tie the game.

Honkers' reliever Brett Herber got through the first inning without allowing a run but in the seventh he couldn't record an out as he allowed four runs all earned, making the score 8-4.

In the eighth the Border Cats added two more off reliever Lance Berringer, as the Honkers couldn't score another run, being shut down by Ben Hoffman. Hoffman (2-5) in relief threw three scoreless innings and allowed only one hit to get the win.

Herber was dealt the loss to drop to 1-1.

The Honkers play another game in Thunder Bay tomorrow evening as they face off at 5:05 in their final game against the Border Cats this season.
