(Rochester, MN)-- The Rochester Honkers Baseball Club announced today the signing of Cameron Olson, a catcher and designated hitter from UC Davis, for the 2014 Northwoods League Season.

Olson is a 6-foot-1, 220-pound sophomore from Yuba City, CA. He is currently hitting .437 with 1 home run, 4 RBIs and 7 runs scored. Olson has seen action primarily at the designated hitter position (3 games) but just got the start at first base on Sunday vs. Portland going 1-3 with 2 runs scored as the UC Davis Aggies won 11-2.

As a freshman, Olson hit .274 with 16 RBIs, seeing action in 34 games while starting 21. He then played in the summer for the Humboldt Crabs in the Far West Summer League. Olson finished his summer season hitting .322 with 11doubles, 8 home runs and 47 RBIs in 41 games. He was named the team’s Co-Offensive Player of the Year, and also a First-Team All-Horizon Air Summer Series nominee and named to the league’s All-Star Team.

A graduate of River Valley High School in 2012, Olson was a three-time All-Area and All-Tri County Conference honoree as a catcher. He set school records for doubles, runs scored and walks.

The Rochester Honkers 21st season begins on May 27th when the Waterloo Bucks prance into Mayo Field for a 7:05pm first pitch. The Honkers will play 72 games in 2014 (36 home, 36 away).
