A school district in the Chicago suburbs was investigating an accounting issue. After the first semester, they were already way over the food budget for the whole year. Not just a little but $300,000. Officials discovered that food was purchased but it never arrived at any of the facilities.

Massive Amount Of Chicken Wings Stolen From Illinois School District

The missing food ended up being 11,000 cases of chicken wings with a street value of $1.5 million. An employee ordered the stolen goods from the school's food distributor. He even went to pick up the merchandise in one of the district's work vans. The invoices were found during the investigation which led to the guilty person.

Arrest Of Chicken Wing Thief Took Months

This incident happened during the COVID lockdown when the students were taking classes online at home. The school was still providing meals for low-income families that were needing assistance. This district is made up of mostly children that require financial help. This makes the situation so much worse.

A Chicago-area school district official has been charged in the theft of $1.5 million worth of food — mostly chicken wings.

 

More than 11,000 cases of chicken wings were ordered from the district’s food provider and then picked up in a district cargo van, according to court documents.
