For many of us, this is the latest frost advisory we've seen in Northern Minnesota. The typical first frost for places like International Falls is in mid-September. Now, weeks later some spots are seeing their first frost. This all at the same time we are at a high risk of fire danger.

My friend Steve, who lives in Cook, Minnesota shared this morning that it's the latest first frost he's ever witnessed.

Dry conditions in recent weeks, coupled with warmer-than-average daytime temperatures and high winds have created ideal conditions for a wildland fire.

The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources shared the fire danger this morning, and even enacted a red flag warning for 18 counties today.

The red flag warning is from 11 am to 7 pm today for Big Stone, Blue Earth, Brown, Cottonwood, Faribault, Jackson, Lac Qui Parle, Lincoln, Lyon, Martin, Murray, Nobles, Pipestone, Redwood, Rock, Traverse, Watonwan, and Yellow Medicine counties.

The National Weather Service Duluth Office says we are looking at little to no rain for the next week, and wind gusts this weekend could reach near 40 mph.

The weather service is also expecting widespread frost tonight, with low temperatures expected to be anywhere from 26-38 degrees across the region.

We'll see what the overnight brings. If you still have plants out, be sure to cover them because a freeze is likely.
