It took more than 20 years for the concept of combining cats and cafés to travel from Taiwan to the Land of 10,000 Lakes, but now Minnesota is home to one of the best cat cafés in the country.

Where It All Began: Cat Flower Garden

Cat Flower Garden, the world's first cat café, opened in Taipei, Taiwan in 1998. It’s still operating today, though now they've added dogs and are known as Café Dogs & Cats. What began as a quiet curiosity in Asia has since grown into a global trend. And now, one of the best cat cafés in the USA can be found right here in Minnesota.

Minnesota's Cat Café Scene Lands National Spotlight

After weeks of voting, the results are in for USA Today’s Readers’ Choice Awards for Best Cat Café in America. Coming in at #6 is a spot that just opened last year but is already making waves on the national scene.

Wired Whisker, located near the scenic shores of Lake Superior in Duluth, was recently recognized as one of the top cat cafés in the country. Out of 20 standout nominees, the café landed an impressive #6 spot, a remarkable achievement for a business that only opened its doors in 2024.

Another Minnesota Café in the Running

Wired Whisker wasn't the only Minnesota cat café to earn national attention. The Café Meow, Minnesota’s first cat café with two locations in the Twin Cities, also made the top 20 but fell just short of cracking the top 10.

Congratulations to the team at Wired Whisker! If you haven’t stopped by yet, it’s a must-visit. Whether you’re grabbing a drink or snack, or reserving one-on-one time with the cats, it’s a cozy and unique experience that’s earning national praise.

The Largest Minnesota Wildfires In Modern History

While Minnesota has experienced even larger, more devastating fires like the 350,00-acre Hinckley Fire in 1884 of the 250,000-acre Cloquet-Moose Lake Fire in 1918, fires have thankfully been relatively smaller in more modern times.

Even though these more modern fires have been smaller, largely due to better firefighting capabilities, many have still been devastating and destructive. Here's a look at Minnesota's largest wildfires since 2007 based on information from the Minnesota Incident Command System.
