The One Day Minnesotans Give To The Max Is Coming Next Week
Minnesotans have the reputation of being a nice and helpful bunch of people, and for 16 years now, for one day each year, we put that to the test. Judging by the hundreds of millions of dollars raised, it is safe to say we have passed that test every single time. It has grown into a familiar November tradition that brings communities all over the state together.
How Give to the Max Day Got Started in Minnesota
In 2009, GiveMN, a statewide nonprofit, launched “Give to the Max Day,” which you can think of as Black Friday for nonprofits in Minnesota. The idea was to create one organized statewide effort where Minnesotans could go online and donate to local nonprofits and schools. It made supporting favorite causes easy, simple, and accessible to anyone with an internet connection.

Despite the platform melting down in the first year because of the amount of traffic and donations, 14 million dollars was still raised. The event continued to grow, and the platform improved each year as more organizations took part and more Minnesotans became aware of it.

Now going into its 17th year, Minnesota’s Give to the Max Day is scheduled for Thursday, November 20. During that 24-hour period, more than 6,000 organizations will collect donations through the GiveMN.org platform. Groups of all sizes, from small community programs to large statewide nonprofits, will be participating.
Minnesota’s Impact on Giving
Since its inception, Give to the Max Day has raised more than 355 million dollars for over 14,000 nonprofits and schools around Minnesota. Last year was the biggest year yet, with 6,556 organizations receiving 37.1 million dollars from more than 100,000 Minnesotans.
As one of the first states to create a dedicated day of giving, Minnesota’s version has become a model for other states and a blueprint for organizing a large statewide fundraising effort.
