According to Illinois Policy, the people who are buying legalized cannabis in Illinois are paying a lot more than the average buyer across the states where cannabis is legal. In an article on their site, they say...

"The study published by Headset found Illinoisans pay 89% more on average for cannabis products than the rest of the U.S. market. Despite the high prices, researchers said the state captured $950 million in total cannabis sales from January through June of 2023. They noted sales growth has declined rapidly since legalization, with just a 2% increase in demand in the first half of this year compared to the same period a year earlier. They said that was likely to get worse with Missouri legalizing recreational weed."

I do think that it is great to know that Illinois is making good money off of legalized weed because a lot of that money comes back to small towns, infrastructure, and programs to help people with elections. But man...at what point will people in Illinois just start crossing the state lines and buying their weed in Missouri or other legalized states? You can already see the demand in Illinois dropping with Missouri legalizing weed, but I guess it is par for the course in Illinois to overtax something to the point where people leave and take their business elsewhere.
