Drivers Planning on Street Parking Near Fair – It Will Cost You
The Minnesota State Fair starts this Thursday. It looks like the weather is going to be pretty great for the first weekend of the fair, so there will probably be some record-breaking attendance this year.
STREET PARKING
Usually, if you don't want to pay for parking on the fairgrounds, or if you don't want to pay one of the many people who live around the fair that allow parking in their yards, you have the option to park on the streets in Falcon Heights. It's normally available if you are willing to drive around long enough to find a spot to park, then just walk to the gates.
NEW THIS YEAR
This year is different. Falcon Heights is starting a new thing. They will be charging $25 for on-street parking around the fairgrounds. This might not go over so well. City administration is saying that they need the revenue from the fairgoers. The state fair is located in Falcon Heights and they say that they do not get any payment from the fair. So, they would like to do what they can for city revenue.
To pay for pay-by-mobile parking, use the ParkMobile app, visit the ParkMobile website, or call the ParkMobile phone number listed on all ParkMobile signage in Falcon Heights.
AVOID THE CHARGE
If you would like to avoid this charge - take the bus/shuttle. There are several park and ride options around the area and those are free. Sometimes the the place that is providing the parking lot will charge a small fee like 45 or $10, but for the most part, those are free to fairgoers. There is even one located in Maple Grove if that is something that you would like to explore. That way avoid driving in the twin cities metro all together.
CHECK THE OPTIONS
You can check out all of the parking options on the fair website. Or download the fair app.
