WHAT!? USPS Is Now Considering Shipping Hand Guns in the Mail
Well now. This is going to cause some controversy. I can't imagine this one is going to just happen without a whole bunch of protests and all kinds of other backlash over this idea.
THERE HAS BEEN A BAN ON THE SHIPMENT OF FIREARMS THROUGH THE MAIL FOR ALMOST 100 YEARS
Since 1927, there has been a ban on shipping firearms through the mail. That is almost 100 years. And at that 100 year mark, the Department of Justice is now considering a lift of the ban deeming that it is unconstitutional under the 2nd amendment. How would this work?
HOW WOULD THIS NEW LAW WORK
People would be able to ship firearms within their state. But they could also mail firearms across state lines to themselves. For instance, you are somewhere else, say on vacation or something. You find a handgun that you would like to have, possibly at a better price then you can get it locally. So, now, under this proposal, youi would be able to ship that back home.
These shipments would be for the legal purpose of either hunting or target shooting. If this is what would happen each time, everything would be fine. BUT you know that this system would be abused. And how do you prove that is what the firearms are being used for? You really can't. Obviously the hand guns would have to be unloaded, and no ammo would be allowed to ship along with the firearm. But, it could still in up in the hands of people who are not lawfully allowed to own or possess a firearm.
THIS PROPOSAL PROBABLY WON'T GO THROUGH, BUT IT COULD
There are some attorneys from about a dozen sttes that are already drawing up letters urging the Post Office to withdraw this proposal. That is not at all a surprise. Let's see how this one plays out. In other words, good luck.
